The US has temporarily eased sanctions on russian oil: restrictions on its purchase and transportation by sea have been lifted for 30 days.
This was reported by the US Department of the Treasury. According to the Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent, the decision was made to stabilize global energy supplies.
"In order to increase the global volume of existing supplies, the US Department of the Treasury is providing temporary permission for countries to purchase russian oil that is currently stuck at sea. This limited short-term measure applies only to oil that is already in transit and will not bring significant financial benefits to the russian government."
According to the terms of the special license, it is allowed to deliver and sell russian oil and petroleum products that were loaded onto tankers as of March 12. The document will be valid until midnight on April 11, Washington time.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the price of a barrel of Brent oil reached almost USD 120 at the auction. This has not happened since the start of the full-scale invasion of the aggressor country of russia into Ukraine.
US President Donald Trump said that some sanctions related to the russian oil sector may be temporarily lifted to stabilize energy prices. At the same time, he did not rule out that some restrictions may not be restored at all.
