US President Donald Trump has said that some of the sanctions related to russia's oil sector may be temporarily lifted to stabilize energy prices. At the same time, he did not rule out that some restrictions might not be reinstated at all.
The American leader said this during a speech at the White House.
First, Trump explained that Washington had decided to ease some of the restrictions in order to influence the rise in global oil prices.
"We're also waiving certain oil-related sanctions to reduce prices (for oil - ed.). We're going to take those sanctions off till this straightens out," the American leader said at first.
However, in the next phrase, he suggested that the restrictions might not be reinstated.
"Then, who knows, maybe we won't have to put them on," Trump said.
In addition, the head of the White House commented on the situation with Iran's blocking of the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, if necessary, the US military, together with its allies, can ensure the safe passage of tankers.
"But when the time comes, the US Navy and its partners will escort tankers through the straight. If needed, I hope it's not going to be needed, but if it's needed, we'll escort them right through," Trump concluded.
Against the backdrop of the war involving Iran, world oil prices have risen sharply. One of the reasons was the blocking of the Strait of Hormuz, as well as interruptions in oil exports from the Persian Gulf countries.
Experts say that this situation may be beneficial for russia, which, despite the sanctions, continues to supply oil to a number of countries, including China, India, Hungary and Slovakia.
Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, on Monday, March 9, it became known that the International Monetary Fund and the International Energy Agency called on the G7 countries to release strategic oil reserves to stabilize the market situation.
At the auction, the price of a barrel of Brent crude oil reached almost USD 120. This has not happened since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the aggressor country russia
