Ukraine is seeking to conclude a strategic agreement with the United States on the joint production of drones and air defense equipment, but the implementation of this project is currently awaiting official approval from the US administration. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke about the need for Washington's direct support for this initiative in an interview with Politico.
It is about creating a comprehensive system capable of protecting the country from massive attacks by Iranian drones and missiles. The Head of State explained in detail the concept of future cooperation, which should combine different types of weapons into one network.
"We wanted to sign a major agreement with the United States on the production of drones, but we needed the approval of the White House. It was about different types of drones and air defense. They work as a single system and can defend against hundreds or thousands of Iranian Shaheds and missiles," Zelenskyy said.
There has not been an opportunity to sign the document yet, but the President hopes that the escalation in the Middle East will encourage American partners to make a quicker decision. According to the Ukrainian leader, such a step would be a logical response to current global threats.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Ukraine has received 11 requests from countries bordering Iran, as well as from the United States and Europe, for assistance in shooting down Iranian drones.
Washington also recognized the mistake of ignoring Ukraine's proposal to protect itself from Iranian Shaheds.
