The Donald Trump administration has been forced to reconsider its attitude to Ukrainian anti-drone technology after a series of successful Iranian attacks on American targets. This is reported by Axios.

Washington had earlier rejected Kyiv's offer to supply cheap and battle-tested interceptors, which American officials now call one of the biggest tactical miscalculations.

The Ukrainian side presented a detailed plan to the White House last August to protect US and allied troops in the Middle East - at a private meeting at the White House on August 18, 2025, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy offered President Trump interceptor drones as a way to strengthen ties and "as a sign of gratitude for US support in the face of Russian aggression."

"The presentation proposed the idea of creating "anti-drone hubs" in Turkey, Jordan, and the Persian Gulf states, where US bases are located, to counter the threat from Iran and its proxies. We wanted to build 'drone walls' and everything necessary, for example, radars and so on," the publication quotes an unnamed Ukrainian official as saying.

The proposal included the creation of anti-drone centers in Turkey and the Gulf countries, as well as the joint production of cheap interceptors capable of effectively destroying Shahids. Despite the business-oriented approach and promises to create jobs in the United States, the Trump team then perceived the initiative as "excessive self-promotion" and took no action.

The situation changed after February 28, when Iranian drones killed seven American servicemen. It turned out that intercepting cheap UAVs costs the allies millions of dollars, while Ukrainian solutions are much more economical. "If there was a tactical mistake or blunder that we made on the eve of this [war in Iran], then this is it," a source in the US administration admitted.

Last week, the United States officially asked Ukraine for help. Kyiv is offering a partnership format: American investments in exchange for access to know-how and the possibility of purchasing American weapons for the funds received.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Ukraine has received 11 requests from countries bordering Iran, and also from the United States and Europe, for help in shooting down Iranian drones.
