A delegation from the Hungarian Ministry of Energy, led by State Secretary Gábor Csepek, has begun a visit to Ukraine. He announced this on his social media.
The main purpose of the trip is to hold talks on the restoration of the Druzhba oil pipeline and inspect its technical condition. Before the visit to Kyiv, Hungarian officials held consultations in Bratislava with representatives of the Slovak government and the energy sector.
The Hungarian side plans to involve not only Ukrainian government officials but also international representatives in the discussions. State Secretary Gábor Csepek, while at the checkpoint, outlined a range of topics for future meetings:
"We want to negotiate not only with the Kyiv government, which is responsible for energy, but also with the ambassadors there, the representative of the European Commission, that the only solution to the European crisis is the restoration of the Druzhba oil pipeline."
Csepek linked the need to restore oil supplies through Ukraine to the tense energy situation in the world, in particular due to conflicts in the Middle East. The delegation, in addition to state administrators, included experts from the oil industry and energy market analysts who are to assess the state of the pipeline infrastructure and the conditions for its safe operation.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on March 5, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that he would not make any compromises with Ukraine and would end the Ukrainian blockade of the Druzhba oil pipeline by force.
On March 3, Orban appealed to the European Commission with a demand to influence Ukraine to restore oil transit, which stopped at the end of January due to damage to infrastructure as a result of russian shelling.
