The Defense Procurement Agency contracted a record number of multicopters in January and February, the military will receive twice as many of these drones as in the same period last year.
This was announced by Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov in the Telegram channel, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"On the instructions of the Ministry of Defense, the Defense Procurement Agency contracted a record number of multicopters in January and February. As a result, the military will receive at least twice as many of these drones as in the same period last year. These are Mavic, Autel, Matrice and other multicopters, which perform critical combat missions on a daily basis in the tactical depth of the front. The increased need for multicopters is a request from units," he said.
These multicopters are used for reconnaissance and fire adjustment at a depth of up to 5 km, hitting infantry with throw offs, mining roads and increasing the accuracy of FPV drones.
In February, deliveries of multicopters increased by 17% compared to January.
Fedorov noted that the army needs them in large quantities - during combat missions, units regularly lose these drones, an important task of the General Staff is to ensure effective distribution between combat units so that the equipment quickly gets to where it is needed most.
The minister also said that this year the purchase of key categories of drones and weapons of mass destruction will be significantly increased: interceptors, FPV and fiber-optic drones, reconnaissance and strike drones.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Fedorov previously reported that the Ministry of Defense is working on an analogue of the Chinese compact DJI Mavic quadcopters, is already testing solutions that will soon be scaled up at the front.
