US says it destroyed Iranian ships near Strait of Hormuz

The US military has reported strikes on Iranian naval vessels near the strategic Strait of Hormuz, destroying more than a dozen ships, including destroyers.

This was announced by the US Central Command, which also released a video of the attacks. The footage shows a series of strikes on Iranian naval vessels.

The escalation of the conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran has already affected the global energy market. Due to hostilities and retaliatory strikes by Tehran, the movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz has almost stopped, which caused a sharp increase in world prices for oil and gas. It is this route that transports about 20% of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas.

US President Donald Trump also warned Iran of possible even tougher strikes if Tehran tries to completely block the Strait of Hormuz and block energy exports from the Persian Gulf.

As a reminder, Trump threatened Iran with "unprecedented military consequences" if the Strait of Hormuz is mined.
