The Supreme Court upheld the decision to establish a de facto marriage relationship between the First Secretary of the Embassy of Ukraine in Israel, Zoryan Kis, and his partner, Tymur Levchuk. The court rejected the cassation appeal of the Vsi Razom movement, which tried to challenge this decision with reference to its charter to prevent the legalization of same-sex unions.
The organization did not participate in the case, and the decision does not affect its direct rights or obligations, the court explained. Thus, the position of the lower court remains in force, which for the first time established the fact that two men lived together in one family without official legalization.
This is a huge precedent, as no conservative organization will be able to use the courts as a tool to persecute or overturn decisions in favor of LGBTI+ people under the guise of public morality, according to the NGO Insight
We remind you that the case began after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine refused to allow Zoryan Kis to travel with his partner on a long-term business trip to Israel. The reason for the refusal was the absence of a legal definition of marriage as a union other than that of a man and a woman. Because of this, the diplomat went to court to recognize his living as a single family, which ultimately protected the boundaries of his private life, human rights activists emphasized.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the first secretary of the Ukrainian Embassy in Israel and openly gay Zoryan Kis showed his property and salary in his position.
It was also reported that a Ukrainian gay diplomat wanted to take his partner liable for military service abroad as a civilian husband.
