Ukraine has used about 700 anti-aircraft missiles for the MIM-104 Patriot air defense system over the past four months. This is more than the American company Lockheed Martin produced in the entire year 2025.
According to Euronews, the European Union Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius Kubilius has stated this.
During a speech in Poland, Kubilius said that in 2025, the aggressor country russia launched almost 2,000 missile strikes against Ukraine, including about 900 ballistic missiles. These missiles are much more difficult to intercept and require advanced air defense systems like the Patriot air defense system.
During the four months of the winter season, the Ukrainian military spent about 700 interceptors for air defense systems. Kubilius emphasized that in 2025, Lockheed Martin produced only 600 missiles
"Americans will not be able to provide enough of those missiles for the Gulf countries, for their own army, and also for Ukraine. The situation is really critical. We need to develop missile production in a very urgent and very rapid way," Kubilius said.
He also noted that the consequences of the Israeli and US operation against Iran have further exposed the vulnerability of dependence on external suppliers
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on February 23, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine has not received a license to produce interceptors for Patriot air defense systems.
Not long before, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said that Berlin has exhausted the entire available stock of missiles for Patriot systems, handing over virtually the entire operational stock to Ukraine.
