Slovakia has announced the possibility of cutting off electricity supplies to Ukraine amid a conflict over the transit of Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline.

ExPro reports this, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

The report says that the Druzhba pipeline, through which russian oil is supplied to Slovakia and Hungary, was damaged as a result of russian shelling on January 27, which led to the suspension of transportation of the resource.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said that Bratislava could also cut off electricity supplies to Ukraine if the suspicion of deliberate delay in the restoration of the damaged section of the Druzhba pipeline is confirmed.

He also allowed for a review of political support for Ukraine in case of an escalation of the situation.

Despite the harsh rhetoric of the Slovak government, no actual restrictions on electricity supplies to Ukraine have been imposed so far.

Ukraine continues to import electricity from the EU, including Slovak and Hungarian routes. According to ExPro, in February, Ukraine has already imported 147,000 MWh from Slovakia (18% of the total volume), and 402,000 MWh from Hungary (50% of the total volume).

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Hungary and Slovakia decided on February 18 to stop supplying diesel fuel to Ukraine due to the shutdown of the Druzhba pipeline.

In August 2025, Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár hinted that Ukraine could be left without Slovak diesel fuel if it continues to strike at the Druzhba pipeline.
