Kyiv police detained a man who mocked the national memorial to the fallen defenders on Maidan Nezalezhnosti. This is stated in the message of the police on Facebook, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"The detainee realized that he had become 'famous' throughout the country for his shameful behavior, so he shaved off his mustache to avoid being recognized by people and found by the police," the statement said.
Law enforcement officers learned about the man's illegal actions on February 25. In the video posted on social media, the offender, being on the main square of the country, mocked the place of memory of the fallen Heroes and demanded to remove the flags.

Law enforcement officers handed the man over to the Military Law Enforcement Service, which will further determine the extent of his responsibility.

In May 2025, the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Tymur Tkachenko, said that from now on, the People's Memorial of Remembrance on Maidan Nezalezhnosti in Kyiv will be guarded by patrol police with weapons. The day before, police in Kyiv detained a 33-year-old woman who had damaged elements of the memorial on the Alley of Heroes - she scattered flowers and damaged photos of fallen Ukrainian defenders placed on the flowerbed, she could not explain her actions.
The People's Memorial of Remembrance is a part of the lawn on Maidan Nezalezhnosti that is completely covered with small yellow and blue flags, large flags or flags of military units that symbolize fallen Ukrainian soldiers.
