Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban ordered the deployment of troops near energy infrastructure facilities, as Ukraine allegedly wants to disrupt the operation of the Hungarian energy system. According to HVG, Orban made the corresponding statement on Wednesday, February 25.

Orban said that Ukraine is "preparing for new actions" and after the Druzhba oil pipeline, it allegedly wants to disrupt the operation of the Hungarian energy system in other ways. He added that they have been instructed to strengthen the protection of critical infrastructure.

"Military personnel and means necessary to repel attacks will be deployed near energy facilities. Police will patrol with increased forces near the specified power plants, distribution stations and dispatch centers," Orban said.

He also added that he had banned drone flights in the Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg region, which is located near the border with Ukraine.

HVG notes that Orban said these words after a meeting of the Hungarian Defense Council, which was attended by, among others, the Minister of Defense and the Chief of the General Staff of the Hungarian Armed Forces.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on February 18, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said that Budapest was suspending diesel fuel exports to Ukraine due to the situation with the Druzhba oil pipeline.

The very next day, February 19, Hungary threatened to stop gas and electricity supplies if Ukraine did not repair the Druzhba oil pipeline.

And on February 20, Budapest announced that Hungary had blocked the European Union's decision to provide Ukraine with a EUR 90 billion loan.

Hungary receives russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline, part of which runs through Ukraine. In late January this year, the pipeline's infrastructure was damaged in an airstrike by the aggressor country, russia. Despite this, Budapest accuses Kyiv of stopping the transit of oil.
