Hungary stops diesel fuel supplies to Ukraine - Szijjártó

Hungary has stopped diesel fuel supplies to Ukraine until the Druzhba oil pipeline is restored. This was stated by the country's Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, writes index.

"We are stopping the supply of diesel fuel to Ukraine and will not resume it until oil flows again through the Druzhba pipeline," he said at a government meeting.

The Foreign Minister recalled that gas transportation through the Druzhba pipeline was stopped on January 27 and has not been resumed since then, following Ukraine's decision. According to Szijjártó, this is a "purely political decision" as there are no technical or operational obstacles to its resumption.

Although the import of russian crude oil is banned in the EU, Hungary and Slovakia, which are landlocked, have received exemptions for pipeline transportation.

"That is why, at the end of last week, together with the Slovak Minister of Economy, we officially notified the Croatian government that we are using this European rule and intend to transport russian crude oil to Hungary and Slovakia via the Adriatic pipeline," the minister said.

Last year, the country imported about 4.9 million tons of crude of oil through the Druzhba pipeline, while only 400,000 tons through the Adriatic. According to Szijjártó, the country currently has strategic reserves of crude oil, which will last for 96 days, so there is no reason for concern in the short term.

Recall that earlier Szijjártó openly expressed support for Ukrainians who illegally cross the border to avoid mobilization.
