US wants to bring Ukraine and russia closer together in three weeks, and there is possible meeting between Zelenskyy and putin - Witkoff

US President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff said that the US is counting on the rapprochement of the parties within the next three weeks, and the result may be a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and russian dictator vladimir putin. At the same time, it could be trilateral - with the participation of US President Donald Trump.

He said this in an interview with Fox News.

"I think that at the leadership level it is difficult for them to conclude an agreement. Jared (Kushner, Trump's son-in-law - ed.) and I hope that we have presented several proposals for discussion to both sides that will bring them closer together over the next three weeks and, perhaps, even lead to a meeting between Zelenskyy and president putin," Witkoff said.

According to him, the meeting may also be trilateral, with the participation of US President Donald Trump. The special envoy noted that Trump does not want to come to the meeting if he does not feel that he can achieve the best result.

"So, hopefully, in the coming weeks we will hear good news," he added.

In addition, Witkoff called the russian-Ukrainian war meaningless, and that the parties are arguing over territory.

"You know, everyone throws around the word "dignity". But what will dignity give you if there are so many murders? We brought the two sides together, and in some respects it had a really positive effect. It does not seem that they really want to fight each other, and I do not think that they do," he claims.

Recall, according to Zelenskyy, both the United States of America and the aggressor country of russia demand that Ukraine withdraw troops from the territories of Donbas to end the war.

On February 18, President Zelenskyy accused russia of dragging out the negotiation process, which could already be in its final stage, and also criticized US President Donald Trump for openly calling on Ukraine to make concessions in the negotiation process with russia.

Meanwhile, German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that the war in Ukraine will not end until one of the sides is economically or militarily exhausted.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said that there have been "important steps forward" in the peace talks on Ukraine on security guarantees, but there is still no consensus on territories. She stressed that the issue of territories that russia continues to claim is completely unfounded.
