There are "important steps forward" in the peace talks on Ukraine in terms of security guarantees, but there is still no consensus on the territories. The head of the Italian Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni stated this in an interview with Sky TG24.
She noted that she currently sees "not so much a turning point as a contact on the ceasefire, which is still very far away in Ukraine." According to her, it is important to achieve not just a ceasefire, but a just peace, because violation of international norms leads to chaos, which is not in the interests of Europe.
The politician emphasized that although there are plans in place, where many issues have already been resolved on paper, the parties are still far from solving the key problem.
"The issue of the territories that Russia continues to claim, in my opinion, is completely unfounded," she said.
At the same time, Meloni noted good progress in the development of security guarantees for Ukraine, which were prepared on the basis of an Italian proposal based on Article 5 of the Atlantic Pact. She also added that work on Ukraine's recovery plan is already at a good stage.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, an image of an angel with features appeared in the Roman basilica of San Lorenzo in Lucina during the restoration, similar to the face of Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni.
