This is stated in the material of the American publication The New York Times (NYT).
Unnamed military officials and intelligence representatives of several Western countries said that putin is confident that the russian army is winning.
"And he is convinced that even if it takes up to two years to fully capture Donbas, every day of fighting and every night when russian missiles and drones strike energy infrastructure and residential buildings, strengthens his position," the publication writes.
At the same time, the NYT draws attention to the fact that in recent months the russian economy has faced significant difficulties. It has been growing rapidly for several years due to colossal military spending, but reached a plateau at the end of last year and is now declining.
At the same time, US President Donald Trump is persistently offering putin large investments in russia if he stops the war against Ukraine. Some analysts believe that the russian dictator may agree to a deal if he manages to secure rapprochement with the US and the withdrawal of the Ukrainian army from the territory of Donbas.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in early February, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that russia would need at least two years to completely capture Donbas. At the same time, this would cost the russian army 800,000 killed soldiers.
According to analysts from the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), if the current pace of the offensive is maintained, it will take russia about a year and a half to occupy the territories of Donbas.
