Polish President Karol Nawrocki has announced his support for the creation of its own nuclear weapons in the country, despite Poland's participation in the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and the risk of an aggressive reaction from russia.
He stated this in an interview with Polsat News.
The President noted that he considers the development of security infrastructure, in particular with the involvement of nuclear potential, as a course of action for the country, which, according to him, is on the brink of armed conflict.
He added that the implementation of such a step should take place taking into account international norms, but did not specify whether the practical implementation of the initiative is possible given Poland's international obligations.
Commenting on the likely reaction of russia in the event of the start of work on the Polish nuclear program, the President stated that Moscow could respond aggressively to any actions.
Recall, in September 2025, Polish President Karol Nawrocki stated that Warsaw would develop its own nuclear capabilities.
However, it is not only in Poland that the prospects of developing its own nuclear weapons are being discussed.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that his country and France are negotiating the creation of a European nuclear defense system.
In May 2025, French President Emmanuel Macron stated that his country was ready to discuss the deployment of its nuclear weapons in European countries.
