Ex-energy minister Halushchenko detained at border - media

On the night of February 15, law enforcement officers detained former Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko while trying to leave Ukraine. This is reported by Ukrainian Pravda.

It is reported that the official was removed from the train.

The border guards acted upon a preliminary request from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO). A similar "beacon" mechanism is usually used for persons undergoing criminal proceedings so that law enforcement officers can quickly obtain information about their movements.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, former Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko noted after his dismissal that he had become poorer by USD 60,000, but had saved more than a million hryvnias.

According to the NABU, former Justice Minister and former Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko assisted businessman Tymur Mindich in controlling financial flows in the energy sector in exchange for his patronage before President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Halushchenko last appeared in public on November 12, when he published a statement about his suspension pending investigation. Against the backdrop of a corruption scandal in the energy sector, the Verkhovna Rada dismissed Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko, who served as Energy Minister in Denys Shmyhal's government (April 2021-July 2025).
