Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an interview with journalist Simon Shuster that the country is not losing the war with russia, so he will not force the people to agree to humiliating conditions.
This was announced by The Atlantic, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
Despite the fact that Ukraine seeks peace as soon as possible, the head of state emphasized his readiness to continue the fight to achieve a fair result.
"But Zelenskyy told me that he would rather not make any agreement at all than force his people to accept a bad one. Even after four years of intense war, he says that he is ready to continue the fight if it is necessary to ensure a dignified and lasting peace," the author of the interview writes.
Assessing the situation on the battlefield, the President expressed his belief that Ukraine will not be defeated.
"Ukraine will not lose," he said.
Separately, the President explained the tactics of negotiations with the United States. According to him, Kyiv supports American proposals in various formats to demonstrate a sincere desire to end the conflict.
"Our tactics are so that the Americans do not think that we want to continue the war. That is why we began to support their proposals in any format that speeds up the process," he noted.
Commenting on the constant pressure for new concessions, Zelenskyy expressed skepticism about some of the partners' proposals.
"Sometimes I get the impression that it is something like: "What else can we offer Ukrainians to just see if they will refuse?" We are not afraid of anything. Are we ready for elections? We are ready. Are we ready for a referendum? We are ready," the President emphasized, recalling that the idea of elections during the war belongs to the russians, "because they want to get rid of me."
Regarding the role of US President Donald Trump in the resolution of the war, Zelenskyy noted that for the American politician this is primarily a matter of political ratings.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in early February, Zelenskyy expressed hope that a stable peace in Ukraine could be achieved in less than a year.
