Zelenskyy announces conditions for stopping strikes on energy sector

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy officially commented on the possibility of introducing an energy ceasefire, emphasizing the absence of any direct agreements with the russian side. He stated this during a meeting with journalists.

The Head of State explained that the issue of de-escalation was raised by US representatives during international consultations in Abu Dhabi. The American side expressed the initiative to mutually limit the use of long-range capabilities by both sides in order to create the necessary space for a diplomatic settlement.

Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine has confirmed its readiness to adhere to a mirror approach in this issue. The main principle is that if russia refuses to strike Ukrainian facilities, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will also not take appropriate measures. The Head of State emphasized that this is not a formal agreement or a legally binding ceasefire, but only a potential opportunity to reduce tensions.

According to the President, the real result of this initiative will depend solely on whether the russian side has heard the signal from the US in the same way. Currently, Ukraine remains open to steps that bring the end of the war closer, but the effectiveness of such a format can only be assessed after analyzing the practical actions of the aggressor on the battlefield and in the energy sector.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Zelenskyy confirmed the negotiations on an energy truce.

On January 29, US President Trump said that he had asked russian dictator vladimir putin not to strike Kyiv and other major Ukrainian cities for a week.
