On January 28, 1992, the parliament adopted resolution No. 2067-ХХ1, the text of which states: "To approve as the National Flag of Ukraine the national flag, which is a rectangular cloth consisting of two equal horizontal stripes: the upper one is blue, the lower one is yellow, with the ratio of the width of the flag to its length 2:3".

The flag of Ukraine managed to be red, red-blue and even crimson, before finally settling on blue-yellow. In 1918, the Central Rada, headed by Mykhailo Hrushevskyi, adopted the Law on the State Flag of the Ukrainian People's Republic, which was yellow-blue (yellow - above, blue - below), which symbolized:
- yellow, gold - the Creator, God the Father, the Supreme Spirituality;
- blue - everything earthly, as well as the freedom of choice that the Creator endowed his creatures with in the hope that they would not abuse it.
However, the flag did not last long in this form, and already during the reign of the Hetmanate of Pavlo Skoropadskyi, it was again changed to blue-yellow.
Interesting stories about the flag
In 1992, the Chinese artist Mao Mao allegedly asked the first President of Ukraine, Leonid Kravchuk, to change the arrangement of the colors on the flag. She motivated her desire by the fact that, according to the "Book of Changes", the blue and yellow stripes on the flag of Ukraine form the hexagram "Pi" ("sky above the earth"), which portends decline and disaster for the young state, while the hexagram "Tai" ("earth above the sky") personifies prosperity.
On November 19, 1997, the blue-yellow flag was first deployed in Earth orbit by Ukrainian cosmonaut Leonid Kadeniuk aboard the shuttle "Columbia" during the STS-87 expedition at an altitude of 279 km above the Earth. For the second time, the Ukrainian flag was unfurled in low-Earth orbit (408 km above the Earth) by American astronaut Randolph Breznik.
