The Polish GTS operator Gaz-System and the GTS Operator of Ukraine have agreed on a phased increase in the capacity to import gas from Poland to Ukraine from the beginning of February 2026.

Denys Shmyhal, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, announced this on his Telegram channel on Tuesday, January 27, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

The report says that by the end of April, the capacity of this area will increase from 15.3 million cubic meters to 18.4 million cubic meters per day.

Shmyhal noted that this is an important agreement to ensure stable heat supply to Ukrainian homes, hospitals, schools and critical infrastructure.

The Minister of Energy added that increasing import capabilities is part of systematic work to strengthen Ukraine's energy security and diversify gas supply routes.

The Polish direction provides access to various sources of gas and remains one of the key import routes.

In 2025, 2.1 billion cubic meters of gas were supplied through Poland, which is more than 30% of total imports, including about 600 million cubic meters of American LNG.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Naftogaz Group and Polish energy company ORLEN signed an agreement, finalizing arrangements for the supply of 300 million cubic meters of American liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the first quarter of 2026.
