On the morning of January 23, the situation in the Ukrainian power system became significantly more complicated, which is why emergency power outages were introduced in most regions. The reason was the simultaneous withdrawal of several generation facilities for emergency repairs after previous massive missile and drone attacks by the russian federation, Ukrenergo reported.
The company explained that the equipment is operating at the limit of its capabilities due to significant damage, and the surviving power units are experiencing critical overloads and require urgent repairs. In order to maintain the balance in the power system and prevent uncontrolled large-scale power outages, dispatchers were forced to apply emergency shutdowns. Ukrenergo does not specify which facilities have failed and in which regions the situation is the most difficult.
"This morning the situation became more complicated, because several generation facilities, unfortunately, went into emergency repair," Ukrenergo reported.
Energy experts note that repair crews are already working on restoration and expect work to be completed at individual facilities in the near future. After that, it is planned to gradually lift emergency restrictions and return to scheduled hourly outage schedules in most regions.
Earlier, the head of the League of Energy Development of Ukraine, Oleksandr Holizdra, said that Kyiv could return to schedules as early as next week if the russian federation does not strike again.
