Ukraine, together with the United States, plan to discuss with russia the idea of a so-called energy truce. This is a possible agreement that should be proposed during trilateral talks in the United Arab Emirates.
This was reported by the Financial Times, citing informed sources.
According to the publication, the essence of the initiative is that russia stops attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, and Ukraine, for its part, undertakes not to attack russian oil refineries and tankers of the so-called "shadow fleet".
At the same time, FT interlocutors note that vladimir putin is unlikely to agree to such a proposal, since the Kremlin considers pressure on the Ukrainian energy system as one of the key instruments of war.
There are also doubts about the energy truce in Kyiv. As the senior official explained, Ukraine has recently achieved tangible results thanks to drone strikes on the russian oil and gas infrastructure, as well as on tankers that provide fuel to the russian military machine. This is what forces the Ukrainian side to weigh all the risks of a potential pause.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on January 22, Zelenskyy and Trump met in Davos. After a conversation that lasted about an hour, the US President said that the meeting was "very good."
Following the conversation with Trump, Zelenskyy also said that the leaders had a productive and meaningful meeting. He also thanked the US president for the supply of missiles for air defense systems.
