A 40-year-old refugee from Ukraine has to pay back CHF 67,000 (USD 83,000) in social assistance, as a Swiss court found his lifestyle inappropriate. It was reported by 24heures.

The Ukrainian arrived in Switzerland in the summer of 2022 and began receiving social assistance. However, an administrative investigation revealed that the refugee owned a Porsche Cayenne worth about CHF 37,500 francs (USD 47,000) and made numerous trips to Europe. In particular, the Ukrainian traveled to Austria, France, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Belgium, and Luxembourg, where he spent significant funds, which was supported by numerous payments on accounts, especially in euros.

"For the Court of Administrative and Public Law (CDAP), the man's lifestyle is "not related to the financial resources he declared," which excludes his poverty. The judges reminded that cars are considered temporary items, as refugees must follow the same rules as other recipients of social assistance," the article says.

In addition, the court emphasized that the Ukrainian has "the necessary resources to meet his needs."
