The large-scale strikes of the russian aggressor country on Ukraine's energy infrastructure did not affect the situation on the front line for the russian army. On the contrary, since the beginning of the year, the speed of the occupiers' advance has slightly decreased
Ants Kiviselg, the head of the Estonian Armed Forces Intelligence Center, has announced this, ERR reports.
According to him, the russians continue to strike at Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Since the beginning of the year, the intensity of such attacks has increased significantly. In addition to power plants and power substations, the occupiers also hit ports, railways, boiler houses and agricultural facilities.
Kiviselg added that russian strikes on the Ukrainian energy sector continue to demonstrate moscow's desire to cause a humanitarian catastrophe in Ukraine and destabilize the society.
"The Russian Federation has been trying to achieve this goal through intensive attacks since the winter of 2022, but so far without success, and now, three years later, in addition to missiles, a large number of drones are also used against Ukraine, which were used much less frequently in previous years of the war," Kiviselg said.
He also emphasized that large-scale strikes on the energy sector did not help the russian army accelerate its advance at the front. On the contrary, the russian advance slowed down compared to December and November 2025.
Kiviselg said that the russians have not changed their plans and continue to try to advance in the north and west of the Donetsk Region, as well as in the Zaporizhzhia Region.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on January 16, Ukraine's Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal said that as a result of russian strikes in Ukraine there was not a single undamaged power plant left.
Yesterday, January 15, the Security Service of Ukraine reported that russian shelling of Ukraine's energy infrastructure has signs of crimes against humanity.
