Due to the large-scale strikes by the aggressor country of russia, not a single undamaged power plant remained in Ukraine. As a result of the attacks, thousands of megawatts of generation capacity were knocked out.
This was stated by the Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal during a speech in parliament, his words are quoted by Suspilne.
According to him, energy infrastructure facilities are subjected to attacks by russian drones and missiles every day. In 2025, the occupiers carried out 612 combined attacks, and since the beginning of this year the intensity has only increased.
"There is not a single power plant left in Ukraine that would not have been hit by the enemy during the war. Thousands of megawatts of generation have been knocked out," Shmyhal said.
He emphasized that despite this, Ukraine's energy system continues to remain intact, although significant restrictions have had to be applied.
As Ukrainian News Agency reported, earlier today, January 16, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said that 24 powerful generators were connected to power residential buildings on the left bank of Kyiv. Mobile kitchens were also deployed in some districts.
We also wrote that due to the consequences of large-scale russian strikes on the energy sector in Kyiv, school holidays will begin on January 19. They will last until February 1 and will be extended if necessary.
In addition, in order to save electricity in the capital, street lighting will be reduced from today.
