The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) is asking the High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine (HACC) to set bail for the leader of the Batkivshchyna faction in the Verkhovna Rada, Yulia Tymoshenko, at UAH 50 million as a preventive measure.
The prosecutor said this during a court session on the selection of a preventive measure, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
The prosecutor said that bail in the amount of UAH 50 million would be sufficient for Tymoshenko to eliminate the risks of her escape. The prosecutor also noted that this is not a strict preventive measure and Tymoshenko has the funds to pay this bail.
In particular, the prosecutor indicated that Tymoshenko gave her daughter USD 4 million. Tymoshenko herself noted that she gave this money to her daughter to run her own business and that this money is compensation from the United States. She also emphasized that she is not going to leave Ukraine and go abroad and not return to Ukraine.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the prosecutor's office is asking the court to ban Tymoshenko from communicating with other MPs. The National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) has published records in the case of bribery of MPs: according to the investigation, Tymoshenko coordinated voting and personnel decisions. Yulia Tymoshenko reacted to the searches in the party office of the political force and called it political pressure. The NABU and SAPO caught the head of one of the parliamentary factions in the Verkhovna Rada giving bribes for voting.
