British intelligence has published updated data on the losses of the russian army in the war against Ukraine in 2025. According to estimates by the Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom, over the past year russia lost about 415,000 soldiers killed and wounded. This is one of the worst figures for the entire time of the full-scale invasion, second only to 2024, when the losses reached approximately 430,000 people.
This is stated in a report by the Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom.
The total losses of russian forces since February 2022, according to estimates by the British side, amount to about 1 million 213 thousand people, including the killed and wounded.
The report separately draws attention to the sharp increase in losses at the end of 2025. In December, the average daily losses of the russian federation reached about 1,130 soldiers, which is more than in November, when this figure was about 1,030 people. This is the fourth consecutive month with an increase in average daily losses.
At the same time, British analysts note that from August to December 2025, russia demonstrated the lowest average daily losses since April 2024, but at the end of the year this trend changed dramatically.
"The level of russian losses increased again due to the active advance along the front line," British intelligence analysts note.
According to their forecasts, in January 2026, russian losses may increase even more.
"We expect a further increase in losses in January 2026 due to the continuation of infantry attacks in several directions," the report says.
British intelligence emphasizes that the scale of losses directly affects russia's ability to sustain offensive operations and forces the command to adjust tactics at the front. In 2025, Moscow continued the tactic of exhausting infantry attacks with minimal personnel retention, which led to a new sharp increase in the number of killed and wounded.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on January 13, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi said that due to high losses, the russian federation cannot increase the number of groups operating in Ukraine for a long time.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the monthly losses of the russian army in Ukraine amount to 30,000 people killed.
