Axios has learned that the American side met with russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev in Paris on January 7 to discuss the peace plan. Against this backdrop, there is a possibility that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will meet with US President Donald Trump to agree on a security guarantee agreement - there are two ways this could happen.
This is stated in the material of the publication, which cites sources.
An informed source said that Trump's advisers Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met with russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev in Paris on Wednesday to discuss the US plan for peace in Ukraine.
In addition, the French newspaper Le Monde reported that Dmitriev was seen near the US Embassy in Paris. However, the White House and Dmitriev's spokesman did not comment. And Zelenskyy said that Ukraine had been informed that the United States would engage with russia on the current proposal.
Ukrainian officials also told the newspaper that it is likely that Zelenskyy will travel to the United States next week to meet with Trump and finalize the security agreement. There is another option - a meeting between the two leaders during the World Economic Forum in Davos, which will take place on January 19-23, 2026.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that US security guarantees for Ukraine are ready to be finalized with US President Donald Trump.
Meanwhile, Politico claims that European officials are considering the option of trading Greenland for more explicit security guarantees for Ukraine from the United States.
However, European countries have begun to develop a plan in case the US decides to seize Greenland by military means.
