MFA recommends Ukrainians to leave Iran immediately due to worsening security situation

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Ukraine has officially called on its citizens to urgently leave the territory of Iran due to the sharp deterioration of the security situation in the country. This is announced in the statement of the department.

The department emphasizes that due to the significant complication of circumstances, Ukrainians are recommended to leave the Islamic republic, using the routes available to us today.

Currently, evacuation is possible by air via Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran, as well as by land routes via checkpoints on the borders with Armenia and Turkey.

In addition to recommendations for departure, the MFA calls on Ukrainian citizens who still remain in Iran to exercise maximum caution. In particular, Ukrainians are asked to remain calm, strictly follow the instructions of local authorities and avoid any conflict situations with law enforcement officials.

As of January 4, at least 16 people had died in a week of unrest in Iran, which has become the largest protests in the country in three years.

On January 6, Iranian security forces used tear gas and dispersed demonstrators who had staged a sit-in protest in Tehran's Grand Bazaar.
