The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has signed an agreement with the energy generating company Ukrhydroenergo to provide a loan of EUR 75 million to finance the project "Modernization and Rehabilitation of Hydropower Generation Facilities of PrJSC Ukrhydroenergo".
This is announced in the company's statement, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
It is noted that the loan financing is supported by a guarantee of the European Union within the framework of the Investment Program for Ukraine (Ukraine Investment Framework) - an instrument for mobilizing financing for the recovery of Ukraine and its long-term growth.
The financing package also provides for investment grants from international donors in the amount of up to EUR 20 million.
The estimated total cost of the project, including Ukrhydroenergo's own contribution, is about EUR 120 million.
The goal of the project is to support the stable operation of the company under martial law and perform emergency and recovery replacement of equipment to increase operational reliability and trouble-free operation of hydroelectric power plants.
In particular, the project funds are planned to be used to purchase critically needed equipment for certain hydroelectric power plants of the company:
- hydropower equipment damaged as a result of the armed aggression of the russian federation;
- hydromechanical equipment for modernization and equipment for responding to emergencies in martial law (emergency assistance mechanism).
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, at the end of April 2025, Ukrhydroenergo received USD 70 million for the construction of energy storage facilities.
Ukrhydroenergo includes Kyiv HEPP, Kyiv PHES, Kaniv HEPP, Kremenchuk HEPP, Seredniodniprovska HEPP, Dnipro HEPP, Dniester HEPP, Dniester PHES and Kakhovka HEPP, with a total installed capacity of 5.745 GW.
100% of Ukrhydroenergo's shares are owned by the state and are managed by the Ministry of Energy.
