We need to build underground infrastructure and tunnels, as Gaza did, and this is what we will need to talk about when rebuilding Ukraine. Oleksii Kuleba, Vice Prime Minister for Reconstruction of Ukraine - Minister of Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine, announced this in an interview with Ekonomichna Pravda on Wednesday, January 7.
Kuleba noted that in cities such as Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv or Izium, it is necessary to build underground schools and develop underground infrastructure. According to him, the Ministry knows how it will use it and live in balance.
"And if we talk about the notebook and what will happen next, in my understanding, my framework is very simple. The wall is no, the tunnels are yes. In Israel, they were separated from Gaza by a wall. And we saw how it ended. I won't talk about our wall, I don't want to comment on it. The tunnels are what Gaza built, what we will need to do, and what we will need to talk about when we rebuild," Kuleba emphasized.
The Minister said that such actions will greatly change the paradigm of Ukrainians' worldview, but society needs open communication. In his opinion, the tunnels should become part of the restoration of the state, which should be agreed upon within the country and which the aggressor country russia will know about at least.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on January 4, Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko said that Ukraine's financial needs for the next 10 years, excluding security costs, would amount to USD 800 billion.
The government estimates that rebuilding and modernizing Ukraine will cost USD 1 trillion over 14 years.
