Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy seems to be considering the candidacy of Yevhen Khmara, head of the SBU's Special Operations Center "A", for the position of head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU).
This follows from Zelenskyy's message.
In his message, the President thanked Khmara and all Ukrainian special forces for their "extremely important combat work" during a full-scale war.
We will scale up the experience of Ukrainian special forces and the SSU's Special Operations Center "A". Today, we also discussed with Yevhen other possibilities for the systemic development of the SSU and special operations that we are currently preparing," the President wrote.
According to media reports, Major General Khmara is being considered as a potential head of the SSU to replace Vasyl Maliuk, and Oleksandr Poklad was also mentioned among the candidates.
Prior to this, Zelenskyy held a meeting with the current head of the SSU, Vasyl Maliuk, who will continue to focus on combat work in the service system. The President noted that together with Maliuk, they discussed candidates for the appointment of a new head of the SSU.
After that, a message appeared from Vasyl Maliuk that he was leaving the post of head of the SSU, but would continue to implement asymmetric special operations of a world-class nature.
Earlier, it was reported that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was considering the possibility of removing SBU head Vasyl Maliuk from his post and appointing him to another position; if the president makes a corresponding decision, Maliuk's resignation must be approved by the Verkhovna Rada.
According to media reports, Maliuk initially refused to go resigned, but then, after Zelenskyy's sharp reaction, agreed.
