From January 1, 2026, Ukraine will officially join the European Union's Roam like at home roaming zone, which will allow Ukrainians to use mobile communications in EU countries without additional charges. This is reported by DW.
After joining the single European digital market, calls, SMS and mobile Internet in 27 EU countries for subscribers with Ukrainian SIM cards will be charged according to the terms of the home tariff - without the need to buy local SIM cards or separately activate roaming.
As explained by the National Сommission for the State Regulation of Electronic Communications, Radio Frequency Spectrum and the Provision of Postal Services, the service will operate automatically in most tariff plans. Calls and messages will be paid for in the same way as in Ukraine, without additional fees for incoming calls.
Commission Head Lilia Malon noted that the rules for using communications will be unified for all EU countries.
"It doesn't matter whether a person is in Ukraine or Poland - the conditions are the same. You can communicate with a Ukrainian SIM card there as if you were at home," she emphasized.
At the same time, certain restrictions are possible regarding mobile Internet. If a subscriber has an unlimited tariff in Ukraine, the so-called fair use policy may apply when roaming in EU countries. This means that the volume of mobile traffic will be determined by a special formula. It is better to clarify the details with your mobile operator. At the same time, the regulator assures that the available Internet volume will be enough for everyday needs - using instant messengers, navigation and social networks.
Earlier, due to the war in Ukraine, the European Commission introduced free roaming for Ukrainians in the EU, which has been available for the past few years.
