The Romanian government has officially joined the US-NATO Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative, allocating EUR 50 million to support Ukraine's defense capabilities. This was announced by Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu.

"Romania's contribution to PURL will contribute to achieving lasting peace in Ukraine by strengthening its potential. Romania's participation in the US-led PURL mechanism directly contributes to strengthening regional security and is fully consistent with Romania's commitments within NATO and the strategic partnership with the United States of America," she noted.

Țoiu stressed that participation in this US-led mechanism directly strengthens regional security. Oana Țoiu also noted that recent talks in the US involving President Donald Trump, European leaders and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy have given new impetus to the process of achieving a just peace.

"Romania promotes European and allied diplomatic dialogue, as well as joint efforts aimed at creating significant security guarantees for both Ukraine and the region," the minister added.

The PURL initiative, established in the summer of 2025, serves as a mechanism for the prompt supply of American weapons and technologies to Ukraine through voluntary contributions from partners.

The National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2026, signed by Trump on Thursday, provides for the allocation of USD 800 million for Ukraine - USD 400 million in each of the next two years - as part of the Ukraine Security Initiative, which pays American companies for weapons for the Ukrainian army.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal said that during the Ramstein meeting, 15 countries announced specific commitments to assist Ukraine.
