The first monthly auction for the allocation of cross-border capacity at the borders of Ukraine with Slovakia, Hungary and Romania has taken place.
Ukrenergo announced this on its Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
The report says that during the auction, the requests of potential supplier companies significantly exceeded the volume of the offer put up for distribution.
Thus, the auctions started on December 15, 2025 on the JAO platform, and direct electricity supply based on their results will begin in January.
This is the first example in the history of the Ukrainian electricity market of joint monthly auctions for the allocation of capacity at the borders with the EU countries.
According to the final results, 460 MW of available capacity was allocated at the Ukrainian-Hungarian border with a ceiling price of 13.4 EUR/MW, however, the total volume requested by traders in this direction was the largest and amounted to 4625 MW.
37 participants took part in the auction, 20 companies became winners.
At the border with Slovakia, 172 MW of available capacity was allocated with a price cap of 16 EUR/MW
The total requested volume at the same time amounted to 1826 MW.
The auction was attended by 38 participants, of which 20 became winners.
At the border with Romania, 172 MW was also allocated with a marginal price of 10.82 EUR/MW, and the total requested volume amounted to 1815 MW.
The auction was attended by 23 participants, of which 10 became winners.
It is noted that holding monthly auctions will reduce the cost of electricity imported from neighboring European countries.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in November, compared to October, Ukraine increased electricity imports by 15% to 415,000 MWh.
