Ukraine is among the countries with the highest level of "brain drain" in the world. It is a process when highly qualified professionals leave the country in search of better working, educational and living conditions abroad. Ukraine topped the European ranking and ranked seventh in the world in this indicator.

The Global Economy index for 2024 showed such data.

With an index of 8.4, Ukraine is behind only six countries in the world - Samoa, Palestine, Jamaica, Eritrea, El Salvador, and Somalia. For comparison, Samoa, the top country in the ranking, has the highest score of 10.

In the European dimension, the situation for Ukraine looks even more alarming: it is Ukraine that has topped the list of countries with the largest brain drain. It is followed by Albania, Moldova, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Romania.

It is noteworthy that the index of Albania, which is not in a state of war, is 8.3 - almost the same as that of Ukraine, which has been living in the conditions of full-scale russian aggression for three years now.

The lowest level of "brain drain" in 2024 was recorded by developed countries - Australia (0.3), Norway (0.4) and Sweden (0.6).

Meanwhile, Ukraine has risen 14 positions to take 40th place out of 195 countries in the global ranking of artificial intelligence.
