Pope Leo XIV has called on the aggressor country russia to stop hostilities and establish a truce for Christmas. His words are cited by Vatican News.
According to tradition, Pope Leo XIV stopped to talk to a group of journalists from various media and answer their questions. The Pontiff commented on the massive russian shelling of Ukraine.
"Truly, one of the things that causes me great sadness today is that Russia has apparently refused to honor the request for a Christmas truce. Perhaps they will listen to us, and there will be 24 hours - one full day of peace in the whole world," the Pope said
The Pontiff urged to reflect on the nature of human life and the value of human life during the Christmas holidays.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, russia refused to cease fire for Christmas.
On December 22, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the aggressor country russia could launch massive strikes on Ukraine on Christmas Day, as it rejected a proposal for a Christmas truce.
