A kind of "traffic jam" of tankers loaded with russian oil has formed near the coasts of India and China.
It was reported by Bloomberg.
According to the publication, russian oil exports have reached their highest levels in the last two and a half years. At the same time, difficulties with unloading have led to a sharp increase in the volume of oil that has been at sea for a long time.
Bloomberg notes that since the end of August 2025, the amount of russian oil transported by sea has increased by 48%, but there are serious problems with delivery. At least 20 tankers are awaiting permission to enter the ports of China and India, while other ships have taken months to get their cargo to their destinations.
In the four weeks through December 21, russia shipped an average of about 3.87 million barrels per day, almost 200,000 barrels more than in the period through December 14. The agency attributes this growth to the resumption of regular shipments from the Baltic port of Primorsk.
Bloomberg analysts also point out that the accumulation of russian oil in the sea is taking place against the backdrop of more active US actions against tankers heading to or from Venezuela. US President Donald Trump accuses these vessels of transporting sanctioned oil. This, according to the agency, may alarm both shippers and buyers of russian oil, who fear that their cargoes may also be subject to restrictions.
Despite the likely reduction in actual deliveries to China and India, the kremlin is trying to compensate by increasing tanker shipments that do not specify their final destination. Vessels are increasingly indicating intermediate ports before crossing the Arabian Sea, and some do not record the final destination at all even after arriving for unloading.
