The Defense Forces of Ukraine control almost 90% of Kupyansk (Kharkiv Region) and regained control over 16 sq. km in the northern part of Pokrovsk (Donetsk Region).
This was announced by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi on Facebook, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
Syrsky, in particular, said that he took part in the 32nd meeting of the Contact Group on Defense Issues of Ukraine "Ramstein", which took place in the format of a video conference and informed about the current situation on the front, which remains difficult.
According to him, to conduct a strategic offensive operation, the enemy increased the grouping to the number of about 710,000 people, despite significant losses, the russian army does not refuse to continue offensive actions, although it has not achieved significant operational successes.
Syrskyi gave examples of successful actions of the Defense Forces of Ukraine.
"Thanks to active search and strike actions, we managed to push the occupiers away from Kupyansk and take control of almost 90 percent of the city's territory," he said.
He also focused on the situation in the Pokrovsk Axis.
"The enemy has been trying to capture Pokrovsk for over 17 months. However, Ukrainian units are holding the defense and seizing the initiative. As a result of counter-offensive actions, they regained control over 16 sq. km in the northern part of the city. They also recaptured 56 sq. km of territory in the areas of the settlements of Hryshyne, Kotlyne, and Udachne west of Pokrovsk," he said.
Syrskyi also noted that in addition to actions at the front, Ukraine is systematically increasing pressure on the enemy deep into its territory, successfully striking critical Russian infrastructure facilities with Deep Strike means, as a result of these strikes, russia's direct and indirect losses since the beginning of the year total USD 21.5 billion.
The Commander-in-Chief emphasized that external support for the Ukrainian Defense Forces is of vital importance for deterring the russian aggressor and the security of European countries and called on partners to increase the volume of international military assistance, primarily for the development of air and missile defense capabilities, as well as for long-range fire damage.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on December 12, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy released a video address from Kupyansk, which, as previously repeatedly stated in the aggressor country of russia, is allegedly surrounded by russian troops.
