Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has made a loud statement, claiming that during recent contacts with the United States over Ukraine, Washington allegedly agreed to support moscow's territorial claims and rule out Kyiv's accession to NATO. It was reported by Newsweek, citing Lavrov's interview with Iran's State Television and Radio.

The russian foreign minister said that these talks "give hope" for a deeper understanding of the kremlin's position by the American side and claims that the US allegedly promised to facilitate the transfer of the occupied territories to russia and confirmed that Ukraine will not be a NATO member. This statement fundamentally contradicts the official White House position on Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

"Now we need to remove these root causes, and it is good that the Americans have understood this. They have clearly said that there can be no NATO. And they have clearly said that those lands where Russians have lived for centuries must once again become Russian, part of Russia," the russian Foreign Minister said.

Among other russian demands put forward during the talks, Lavrov named the "restoration of the rights" of the UOC and the russian language in Ukraine. He also said that the russian federation "has nothing to talk about" with the current European leadership and that European countries allegedly "ignored all chances to participate in the settlement" of the war in Ukraine.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Kyiv does not intend to give up the Donbas and does not recognize the temporarily occupied territories as part of russia either legally or factually.

It was also reported that US President Donald Trump believes that providing Ukraine with security guarantees similar to Article 5 of NATO could force russian dictator vladimir putin to peace.
