The G7 countries are ready to explore the possibility of using all frozen russian funds to ensure a just and lasting peace in Ukraine. This is stated in a joint statement of the G7 finance ministers.
"We will continue to work together to develop a wide range of financing options to support Ukraine, including the possible use of the full range of russian sovereign assets frozen in our jurisdictions until russia pays reparations, with the aim of ending the war and ensuring a just and lasting peace in Ukraine," the statement said.
The G7 also pledged to continue supporting Kyiv in the areas of reform, combating corruption and improving governance, in particular among state-owned enterprises. In addition, the ministers warned that if peace talks on Ukraine fail, pressure on russia will be intensified.
"We agreed on the importance of keeping Ukraine at the top of the G7 agenda during the upcoming French presidency of the G7," the ministers said.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Zelenskyy expressed hope that the EU would resolve the issue of providing a reparations loan.
On December 4, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz called on EU countries to share Belgium's risks associated with the confiscation of assets of the aggressor country, russia.
