Finland said it could not yet provide Ukraine with security guarantees, but planned to join the organizational work to ensure them. The Prime Minister of Finland Petteri Orpo has announced this , Yle newspaper reports.
Finland said it did not know the specifics of the security guarantees offered by the United States to Ukraine (similar to NATO Article 5). Instead, Helsinki is working on its own security measures, different from guarantees.
"Security guarantees are a very serious matter. We are not ready to provide guarantees, but we can help with the organization of security measures. The difference between this is very big," Orpo emphasized.
Commenting on the peace plan, which mentioned Finland among the guarantor countries, Orpo said he did not understand this inclusion, as he believes that only the United States and leading European countries can provide real security guarantees. Finland does not see itself among such states.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Stubb said that progress had been made in the issue of security guarantees for Ukraine but added that a peace agreement must be concluded before any measures can be taken.
Earlier, during a conference in Kyiv, Finnish President Alexander Stubb and UK Deputy Prime Minister Boris Jones had a dispute over Ukraine.
