The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has sent additional personnel to the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant to conduct a comprehensive inspection of the New Safe Confinement. The need for the inspection arose due to the damage sustained by the facility as a result of a drone strike on February 14, 2025. The Agency Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi has stated this.

The IAEA's permanent mission to the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, which has been operating since January 2023, has been strengthened by experts specializing in nuclear safety and security.

The main task of the mission is to assess the condition of the NSC protective arch, which has significant structural damage. It is noted that the incident did not lead to the release of radioactive materials. In addition, experts will study current risk reduction measures and develop plans to restore confinement functions.

In addition, the IAEA is preparing its sixth mission to inspect several critical substations. The goal is to assess the latest damage and its impact on the operation of the nuclear power plant.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the IAEA said that electricity production at the Khmelnytskyi, Rivne and South Ukraine NPPs has returned to almost normal levels after the recent power outages. Almost all power units are now operating at full capacity as the damaged high-voltage lines have been fully restored.

Earlier, two of Ukraine's nuclear power plants, Khmelnytskyi and Rivne, were forced to reduce electricity production after russian troops attacked a critical power substation. This mode of operation has been in place for ten days.
