The leaders of most European countries did not know about the US "peace plan" to end the russian-Ukrainian war until information about it leaked to the press.
The New York Times reported this, citing its own sources.
The journalists spoke with 16 European officials, who said that many foreign ministers of European countries first heard about the "peace plan" last Thursday, November 20. That day, a meeting of the EU Foreign Ministers' Council was held in Brussels.
The interlocutors of the publication said that the details of the "peace plan", which were reported by Axios and The Financial Times, impressed the European ministers.
"When everyone arrived, having read The Financial Times, some questions arose," recalls Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen.
The Europeans knew the US was working on some kind of plan, but they had no idea how favorable it would be to the aggressor country, russia. When the 28 points of the plan surfaced, they realized that Europe had been excluded from the efforts to resolve the conflict.
In search of clarity, European ministers began to pressure Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, who joined the meeting by video link. Two officials said that Sybiha also had limited information.
By Friday, President Donald Trump and his administration had begun talks with European counterparts. After that, it became increasingly obvious that the "peace plan" was real.
As Ukrainian News Agency reported, earlier today, November 27, the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andrii Yermak said that at the end of the week, the Ukrainian and US teams would continue working on the "peace plan".
Let us recall that also today, russian dictator vladimir putin stated that russia will supposedly cease hostilities only after the Ukrainian army withdraws from the territories annexed by the aggressor country.
