Shelter Coalition announces EUR 22 million in contributions

The International Coalition of Civil Protection Shelters for Ukraine has announced EUR 22 million in contributions. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced this on her Telegram channel, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

Svyrydenko, in particular, reported on the first constituent meeting of the Shelter Coalition in Kyiv on November 27.

"I am grateful to all the states that have already announced their new contributions totaling over EUR 22 million. Of these, EUR 11 million was contributed by Finland, which is the leader of the coalition thanks to its unique 80-year experience in creating bomb shelter systems. In addition, EUR 7 million is a contribution from Sweden, EUR 2 million each from Lithuania and Belgium, and EUR 0.5 million from Ireland. Switzerland also intends to join the initiative," the Prime Minister said.

According to her, as of today, more than 42 underground schools have already been built in frontline regions alone at the expense of the state budget and previous contributions from partners.

She also reported that for the first time, the draft state budget for 2026 provided for UAH 1 billion for shelters in kindergartens and expressed hope for its adoption by the Verkhovna Rada next week.

In turn, the Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko reported on the Telegram channel that today Ukraine, together with its partners, have moved to the practical stage of launching the Coalition of Civil Defense Shelters - a multilateral initiative designed to create a modern and effective network of protective structures in Ukraine.

According to him, the shelter fund in Ukraine today is about 62,000 facilities, but this is not enough, they accommodate only half of the population.
