White House believes that corruption scandal with Mindich would push Ukraine to discuss peace plan - Atlantic

US Vice President JD Vance suggested that a large-scale corruption scandal in the Ukrainian energy sector could persuade Kyiv to accept the 28-point peace plan.

This is reported by the Atlantic.

According to the publication, although President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was not directly connected with the corruption schemes, Washington believed that the situation would weaken Ukraine's position and make it more inclined to negotiations.

It is also noted that during the presentation of the peace plan, Ukraine did not reject it completely, but agreed to continue consultations.

"We thought we would just open the door, but it was already open. Ukraine was ready to talk," described the situation one of the American officials.

However, according to the Atlantic, the negotiations reached a dead end. During the meetings in Geneva, the parties reduced the list from 28 points to 19 and handed over the updated plan to the russian side. However, the Kremlin made it clear that it was not ready to give up its key demands.

Recall that the so-called US "peace plan" to end the war in Ukraine was developed in October of this year. Donald Trump did not know about it until the last moment. Later, Axios reported that the document consists of 28 points and contains russia's maximalist demands on Ukraine, which it has been putting forward since 2022.

Ukraine and the United States, following the negotiations in Geneva, prepared an updated and revised framework document on peace on November 23.

On November 23, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced changes to the US "peace plan" to end the war in Ukraine following the results of the meeting with Ukrainian officials.

Meanwhile, a US official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told the Washington Post that US President Donald Trump was not "too involved" in the details of the peace plan for the russia-Ukraine war.
