The administration of US President Donald Trump fears that the aggressor country russia will reject the updated "peace plan" to end the russian-Ukrainian war.
The New York Times reported this with reference to its own sources.
The newspaper's interlocutors said that the White House believes that making changes to the "peace plan" could lead to the kremlin rejecting it without consideration.
Initially, the American "peace plan" consisted of 28 points and was almost completely unacceptable to Ukraine. After negotiations in Geneva between representatives of Ukraine, the United States and Europe, the "peace plan" was reduced to 20 points. The discussion of the most sensitive points of the plan was postponed to the future.
The publication notes that there are no signs that russia will agree to the updated version of the "peace plan". Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said earlier that if the new plan destroys "the spirit and letter of Anchorage, the situation will be fundamentally different." By doing so, he made it clear that moscow intends to resist any retreat from the maximalist positions laid down in the original plan.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, US President Donald Trump confirmed that the "peace plan" had been finalized in light of the parties' proposals. He also stated that he sent special envoy Steve Witkoff to moscow to meet with dictator vladimir putin and agree on a plan to end the war.
Trump also said that he is ready to meet with putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, but only after the agreement to end the war is in its final stages.
