British Prime Minister Keir Starmer confirmed his readiness to send troops to protect Ukraine in the event of a cessation of hostilities.
This is reported by The Guardian.
Thus, Starmer and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a telephone conversation, during which they discussed the current work of the Coalition of the Willing to prepare for the deployment of multinational forces in Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire.
The Prime Minister's official representative confirmed that Great Britain is still ready to send troops to protect Kyiv in the event of a cessation of hostilities.
It is noted that at the beginning of the conversation, Starmer expressed sympathy for the nightly russian attacks on Ukraine. The British Prime Minister said that Ukraine can count on the country's support in further negotiations. The leaders stressed the importance of continued work by coalition partners on preparing for the deployment of a multinational force after the cessation of hostilities and look forward to a speedy resumption of talks.
Asked whether Britain was still prepared to send troops, Starmer's spokesman replied:
"If you ask me directly whether Britain is still prepared to send troops in the event of a cessation of hostilities, the answer is yes. That is our current position."
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on the eve of the video conference of the Coalition of the Willing, French President Emmanuel Macron said that US President Donald Trump's peace plan needed to be improved to make it acceptable to Ukraine and Europe. He stressed that "we do not want a peace that is effectively a capitulation."
